Chasing the Feeling of Right Now

Graded vinyl is new, but collecting music has always been about nostalgia.

Hearing “Alive” by Pearl Jam takes me back to a simpler time. Standing around a bonfire on the beach with a 30-pack of Busch Light, making memories with classmates. Some became lifelong friends. Others went on their own journeys, only crossing paths with us occasionally years later.

A single song can transport you back 30 years to moments that seemed small at the time but became some of your most treasured memories.

Today, I want that same record in the factory-sealed condition I could never afford when I was sixteen. I want it encapsulated and preserved for the next thirty years.

In many ways, it becomes a time capsule, preserving not only the record itself but also the emotions, memories, and experiences tied to it.

Life moves fast.

At the time, none of us standing around those beach fires realized that one of those parties would be the last one we would ever attend together.

But there was a last one.

As we get older, life becomes bigger. The highs get higher. We get married. We have children. We build careers. The risks and responsibilities become far greater than worrying about a party getting broken up by the local police.

Yet when that song comes on, none of that matters for five minutes and forty-one seconds.

For those few moments, you’re transported back. The worries disappear. The responsibilities fade away. You’re reminded of who you were, where you came from, and the people who shared those moments with you.

Every time you hold that record, it serves as a reminder of how good life really is.

Enjoy this moment now. One day you’ll wake up and realize that thirty years have passed in the blink of an eye.
